A Guide to Choosing Wedding Colors

When helping couples plan the perfect wedding day, you will find a bit of variety when it comes to the extent to which a given pair expects help with creative planning. While some groups come prepared with ideas and aesthetic goals, others are unsure and will look to your for suggestions and creative guidance.

Getting started, there are several factors that should be considered if you ever need to help a couple select colors.

  • Ask their favorite colors- this is obviously an easy place to start. Consider showing them a variety of color samples and asking them to set aside their favorites.
  • Study the venue- This is something many planners forget and something that can cause a very dissatisfying aesthetic clash if not considered. If the reception hall is bright red and your couple chooses to decorate in bright yellow, the combination could look awful. Always check out the venue before you decide.
  • Time of day- This is another concept people often forget. Different colors look different under different lighting at different times. If you think you’ve landed on a color everyone is happy with, head to the venue with some samples at the same time of day during which the actual event is set to take place. Make sure you’re happy with the appearance under the expected circumstances.
