Your Creative Writing Expert
NYIAD is the only school that pairs its students with professional writers to help you become a better writer. You will learn to write online with access to published authors by phone and email. These creative writing mentors will provide feedback on your work and help you improve.
The course will cover both short stories and novels, giving students a well-rounded creative writing education that they can use to pursue their dream of getting published themselves. It was written by Stephanie Grant, director of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at American University and author of two novels, The Passion of Alice and Map of Ireland.
Stephanie's first novel, The Passion of Alice, was longlisted for Britain's Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Best Lesbian Fiction. She has taught creative writing at Ohio State University and Mount Holyoke College and is currently visiting writer at the Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University.
Throughout the course, Stephanie shares examples from a variety of different sources to illustrate the techniques that the best writers use to tell compelling stories.
About Our Creative Writing Mentor Program
The most important part of any young writer's path to success is feedback from someone who has already achieved success. That is why we pair all of our writers with published authors who will critique your work as you make your way through the course.
Each unit includes a writing assignment that will be turned in to your teacher. He or she will read your work and provide feedback so that you know what you're doing well, and what you can do to improve.
